Hi! I’m Jo Skillman, a creative and brand director. I build large-scale brands & campaigns that engage communities and maximize impact.

For over 13 years I’ve developed creative that connects brands to people and back again from my home in the nation’s most diverse city: Houston, Texas. A designer and writer at heart, I often write (and speak!) about how brands live within culture, where ideas come from and how to build unexpected creative. I have a strong background in cause- or civic-based creative, but I also have extensive experience in for-profit work, and I’m happy to be anywhere that brands are communicating with people. :)

I’ve been published in Forbes, the Brookings Institution and several online publications, as well as profiled in PRINT.

My degree is in communication design, and I hold a UX design certification and a certification in change management with an emphasis on building collaborative teams. I’m equal parts creative director, designer and copywriter, and I’m fluent in the languages of DEI and accessibility. I nerd out over behavioral psychology.

I volunteer mentoring startups in the Rice Alliance Clean Energy Accelerator at Rice University and am an alumna of the City of Houston’s Complete Communities University, a civic engagement program.

My name is not short for anything.
